Here is a wonderful validation for telcos set to rollout triple-play services that include IPTV delivered in the home over coax cable or phone wires. AT&T recently gave a second quarter 2008 investor update on July 23 in which executives cited some great news for HomePNA. On the oh-so-good news front, AT&T’ had a net addition of 170,000 new U-verse TV customers. This represents a significant increase from last quarter’s 148,000 new customers and puts the number of U-verse customers over 549,000 today.
As customer numbers continue to grow, and all indications indicate they will, AT&T is on track to exceed 1 million U-verse subscribers by the end of 2008 – and that is something to really smile about!
On the not-so-good news front, net customer additions for Verizon’s FIOS TV actually declined significantly in the same period, adding only 176,000 new TV customers. Since Verizon is the largest customer for MOCA, we believe that considering all the telcos deploying HomePNA for IPTV today, the net additions for HomePNA were actually higher than net additions for MOCA in the quarter.
